Although this project will have some elements that are most often associated with social media platforms, we want to avoid being categorized as one.

Differences from Social Media

  • Social media is optimized for broadcasting information. A wiki is optimized for organizing information.
  • Social media asks, "What do you want to share today?" WikiFam asks, "What do you want to remember five years from now?"
  • There will not be a "feed"; there are no automatic notifications (although you can add a notification to any page or section of a page that you have permissions to view to be notified when it is modified)

Potential Sharing Ideas

  • Users could maintain a list of top ten favorite books, movies, musicians, etc. and share with their contacts
  • Share recipes with all community members
  • Share a vacation journal with family members and close friends
