This page contains notes about the improvements I would like to make to the Visual Editor

Improvements

  • Allow upload PDF
  • Links
    • Make them more visible; somehow include some color coding of the area or project of the destination page
  • Allow highlighting text
    • Yellow: important
    • Blue: follow-up needed (mostly used on Idea notes and Study notes).
    • Green: words whose definition I might not know; if you hover over the word, a tooltip automatically shows the meaning
    • Red: needs attention (possible mistake, typo, etc.)
  • Optionally disable the Summary box that opens after you click Save changes.
  • Bullet lists
    • I would like to be able to expand/contract subsections and I can specify if I want it open or closed by default
  • Header Expansion to a New Page
    • A button on each page, when clicked a popup lists all Sub-Heading2 and above headers; user checks the box next to one or more headers. If you select a header, all sub-headers below it become greyed out, because they will travel with the header. User clicks Expand and those headers are removed from the current page and a new page is created for each checked box with the page title equal to the former header text
    • Remove the header and all content below the head from the existing wiki page
    • Create a new page called HeaderName with an intro sentence referencing the originating page
    • The content below the header is added under a header called Imported from <page_name>.
    • Each time a user uses this feature, it should be logged so it can be tracked in the Leader Boards
  • List Expansion to Headers: similar to header expansion

Approach

Contact the maintainers of the Visual Editor and others influential in the community and mention that I am interested in adding features and ask for feedback on making enhancements to the existing Visual Editor or creating an entirely new editor.
